Why Take a Manager Quiz?
“Self-reverence, self-knowledge, self-control. These three alone lead one to sovereign power”. –Alfred Lord Tennyson
Ask most employees what they think about their managers and they’ll roll their eyes or start muttering bad words. In fact, according to a study by DDI, a shocking one in three employees doesn’t think their boss is doing a good job. Yet, if you’re in a leadership position, you probably believe that you’re doing just fine. Well… at least you’d say you’re trying.
So who’s right?

Managing others is not easy to do. Defining what makes a manager “good” is even harder. In fact, if you were to collect ten great leaders, you’d see that they were all different. They’d each have a unique managing style, and bring different skillsets to the table.
For example, a super-nice boss might say yes to too many projects and overestimate the amount of work your team can handle. A super-knowledgeable supervisor might wow you with brilliance, but not sign off on projects in time because of too much attention to detail. Here’s a little secret: humans are not perfect and therefore, there is no perfect manager.
The good news is that management ability is a work in progress that can flourish with proper attention and practice. We each have unique skills that help us manage others. The skills that we lack can be learned.
The first step is to discover your personal management style. Once you understand which talents already come easy to you, you can pat yourself on the back for being halfway there! Then, you can work on developing the skills that are a bit harder for you to master. How great a boss you become is completely up to you.
